DC Arc Furnace Steelmaking
In the mid-1980s, DC electric arc furnace steelmaking technology was developed abroad. Compared with AC electric arc furnace steelmaking technology, this technology has the following advantages:
1) The electrode consumption is reduced by more than 50%;
2) Reduce energy consumption per ton of steel by 5% ~ 10%;
3) The service life of furnace lining is extended by more than 30%;
4) The temperature of the molten pool is uniform and the fluctuation of tapping temperature is small;
5) The noise is reduced by about 10 dB;
6) The flicker is reduced by 50%, the interference to the power grid voltage is small, and the power grid capacity is 1 / 2 of that when using AC electric arc furnace, which can meet the requirements.
In terms of structure, the main difference between DC electric arc furnace and AC electric arc furnace is that a set of rectifier equipment is added to change the input power supply from AC to DC; The number of graphite electrodes on the top of the furnace is reduced from three to one, and a bottom electrode is added at the bottom of the furnace.
From the perspective of investment benefit, although the infrastructure investment of DC electric arc furnace is about 20% higher than that of AC electric arc furnace, the payback period is greatly shortened. For example, if China transforms the old equipment of the original AC electric arc furnace into DC electric arc furnace, the cost will be recovered in about half a year.
To sum up, DC electric arc furnace has many advantages, and the development of DC electric arc furnace steelmaking technology has become a consensus.
In the last 10 years, more than 40 DC electric arc furnaces of more than 50 tons have been put into production all over the world, with a maximum tonnage of 150 tons. Japan is building a 250 ton DC electric arc furnace, trying to be at the forefront of the world.
The 30 ton DC electric arc furnace designed and manufactured by China has been put into production in Chengdu, Beijing, and other places, and the imported 100 ton DC electric arc furnace has also been built in Shanghai.
It is estimated that more than 10 large DC electric arc furnaces will be completed and put into operation in China by 2000. This will lay a good foundation for the development of modern steelmaking technology.
